There is a new texting scam to watch out for, as someone pretending to be from the Colorado Department of Revenue is sending texts to people stating that they have a traffic violation that is unpaid, and unless you pay it, there will be penalties, such as a revocation of your driver’s license, or that you risk legal action is you don’t pay the fine.
This is a scam; the Colorado Department of Revenue will NEVER contact you about any issue via text. In fact, NO Government agency will contact you in this manner. If you receive a text like this, or similar, simply delete it, and DO NOT RESPOND. And NEVER click on any link within a text message like these. It’s a phishing scam that many folks have become victims of in the past. USE CAUTION. You can also report these incidents to your local law enforcement agency.
