Authorities Discover Body Near Railroad Tracks in Sidney, Nebraska

A sad story from Sidney, Nebraska, as a report came in at 8:03 pm on Tuesday evening, June 3rd, of a body floating in the water, near the BNSF railroad tracks, as authorities have identified the human remains as 24-year-old Mattea Scheuerman. A group of local children walking near the tunnel beneath the tracks located the remains.
The news came out in a joint press release from the Sidney Police Department & the Cheyenne County Sheriff’s Office. Scheuerman’s body was found in a drainage ditch next to a culvert close to 7th Avenue and Maple Street, as sheriff’s deputies, police officers, and the Sidney Volunteer Fire Department responded to the call.
The investigation remains ongoing as to what happened to the mother of 2, a 2019 graduate of the Sidney Public School system. No other details are being released at this time, as an autopsy has been scheduled.
According to her social media profile, she was also studying at Northeastern Junior College in Sterling. Scheuerman was reported to be back in Sidney, visiting from Greensburg, Indiana.
