PRESS RELEASE: The City of Fort Morgan is soliciting applications from residents interested in being

appointed to fill a vacancy on the City Council representing Ward 1.

Applications will be accepted through 5 p.m. on Monday, November 23rd. The council

hopes to be able to appoint a new council member at the December 1 City Council

regular meeting.

Applicants must reside in Ward 1, which covers most of the western part of the city –

west of Main Street, north of the railroad tracks and west of West Street south of the

tracks. The Ward 1 seat became vacant with the recent resignation of former

Councilmember Brian Urdiales. The person selected by the council to fill the seat will

serve only for the remainder of Urdiales’ unexpired term, which runs out in early

January 2028.

Applicants must be citizens of the United States, qualified electors of the City of Fort

Morgan and have lived in the city for at least one year. Applicants for this vacancy must

live in Ward 1 currently, but there is no separate requirement for the time of residency in

the ward.

The application includes two pages of information and questions, along with a statement

verifying that the applicant meets all of the qualifications to serve on the council. This

Verified Statement of Applicant must be notarized and returned with the council

application by the December 2 deadline.

Applicants who qualify will be invited to appear at the December 1 meeting of the City

Council to make a brief presentation and answer questions. The council may then vote

to appoint one of the applicants, and the successful candidate would be immediately

sworn in and begin work as a councilmember.

The selected applicant will serve until the next regular municipal election in November

2027, at which time they must stand for election to a new four-year term.

Applicants should be prepared to make a time commitment that involves regular council

meetings on the first and third Tuesdays of each month at 6 p.m., as well as special

meetings, retreats, and other council functions as scheduled.

Applications are available at City Hall, 110 Main St., or on the city’s website at
