Washington County Commissioners are proud to announce the long-awaited highway paving
project for part of County Road RR will begin the week of August 25, 2025. The work will be
done by McAtee Construction Company dba as Simon Construction out of Sterling, Colorado.
The scope of work to be done is a hot mix asphalt overlay of 11.35 miles of the County Road RR
from the intersection with State Highway 34 in Otis down to County Road 29. They will begin in
Otis with milling near the railroad crossing and the street intersections on the east side of the
county road. Then they will work their way from north to south on the project. Center striping
will be added to this section of the road. It is expected to take at least three to four weeks to
complete the project depending on the weather.
This work will be accomplished with one lane closures using short delays and a pilot vehicle to
guide people through the construction area. Please be patient and plan for a little extra time in
your daily travels through this area.
This paving project is expected to cost $2.6 million with $1 million Energy and Mineral Impact
Assistance Fund grant from the Colorado Department of Local Affairs and approximately $1.6
million from the County Road and Bridge budget.
