It was a beautiful early fall morning at Riverside Park in Fort Morgan for the ‘United We Race’ that took place early Saturday morning, September 27, to help benefit the United Way of Morgan County. United Way has been helping local folks in Morgan County since 1958.
Several members of the United Way were at Riverside Park for Saturday’s fun event. There was a total of 16: 2-person teams competing in this year’s event. It is not a typical race, such as a 5K, but more like a competition race with obstacles and problems to solve, similar to ‘The Amazing Race’ television show.
Executive Director Sue Boyett, Community Organizer Pauline Reiber, and Board Member (and creator of this race) Chaundra Jacobs, were all present along with many United Way staff members and volunteers were there.
The teams each had to complete 9 different challenges throughout the course, with big prizes going to the top 3 teams that could complete both the qualifier and finale first.
There have been teams that have won more than one competition over the years, but this year was the first back-to-back victory, which was achieved by one of the teams from Western Sugar, called the WESTERN SUGAR DADDIES, consisting of Jose Irizarry & Jesus Gallardo. In second place was the team from the City of Log Lane Village, called THE PIGS with Keirsten and Pedro Malave. In third place was another team from Western Sugar, named the SUGAR MAMAS with Lydia Kellogg and Olivia Samson. Congrats to this year's ‘United We Race’ winners!
