Late Wednesday afternoon (Aug. 20), several train cars on the Colorado Pacific Railroad derailed and went off the tracks in Kiowa County. The incident occurred before 5 pm as the westbound train with approximately 110 cars was traveling just west of Chivington in Kiowa County, south of Kit Carson and Cheyenne Wells.

The Kiowa County Independent reported the incident soon after, as reports indicate that there were NO INJURIES involved in this wreck, and the engine was NOT among the derailed cars. The cars had just been loaded with wheat from Weskan Grain in Stockton, preceding the accident. The exact number of derailed cars is unknown currently.
