At the recent Morgan County Board of County Commissioners meeting there was a special presentation by Senator Byron Pelton with a review of what is happening at the Colorado State Capitol. He’s working on the ‘Landfill Bill’, where they are working on the ‘methane’ from the landfills. The thought from the Capitol is that the methane caused by agriculture and landfills is problematic, even though it’s less than 1% of the total methane from the entire State of Colorado. This could increase landfill fees in Morgan, Logan, and Weld Counties, which is why Senator Pelton is running this bill to try to curb some of those impacts. Another issue that was discussed with the commissioners is the condition of the roads in Morgan County and the northeastern region. Commissioner Jon Becker pointed out that, using CDOT’s own maps and data, over 70% of the roads and highways, including I-76, are in poor condition. There will be a ballot initiative for next year that should address this, even though the state and CDOT are not fans of it. Budgets for the ambulance services, empty Bustang buses, permitting and planning & zoning, and more. Colorado ranks 7th in the nation for green-energy production, due to Republican County Commissioners who have permitted these projects. While Denver, Boulder, and Larimer Counties have denied their presence in those counties. Senator Byron Pelton mentioned how he is available for any questions from his constituents; just go to byronpelton.com.
