Morgan County Sheriff’s Office - Scammers are active again in Morgan County. The sheriff’s office has received multiple calls from residents reporting that someone identifying themselves as Undersheriff Host, badge #3212 from the Morgan County Sheriff's Office, is calling and claiming that you have a warrant. They threaten that you must pay $5,000 or you will be arrested. The phone number that appears on caller ID or in the voicemail is (970)831-9580. This individual is falsely claiming that this is a federal warrant. Just so you know, the Morgan County Sheriff’s Office does not have any staff members by that name. If you have a warrant, they will not contact you by phone; instead, they will come to your home to address the matter in person.
If you receive such a call, please follow these steps:
1. Do not engage with the caller; hang up immediately.
2. Never share personal or financial information with unknown callers.
3. Verify the call independently. If you receive a call from a legitimate agency, return the call using a number from their official website, not the number provided by the caller.
4. Report the scam to the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) https://reportfraud.ftc.gov/ and your state’s Attorney General’s Office.
5. If you believe your personal information has been compromised, contact one of the three major credit bureaus (Equifax, Experian, or TransUnion) to place a fraud alert on your credit report.
