On Tuesday, September 2nd, President Donald Trump announced that he has decided to move the U.S. Space Command out of Colorado. It’s a reversal of a Biden-era decision, as the Space Command will relocate to the Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama, from Peterson Space Force Base in Colorado Springs.
In a posting on Facebook, Colorado Governor Jared Polis stated, ‘This is the wrong decision, diminishing military readiness, and national security….’ Colorado Attorney General Phil Weiser plans on a legal challenge to try to stop the relocation.
This issue crosses party lines, as in early April of this year, four Republicans sent a letter to the White House, expressing their desire to keep the command in Colorado. Representatives Jeff Crank, Jeff Hurd, Gabe Evans, and Lauren Boebert all signed that letter, dated April 7th, 2025.
In early 2021, the Air Force identified Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville as the preferred location for the Space Command, as it was selected from six other states, including Colorado. Huntsville was nicknamed ‘Rocket City’ due to its role in building the first rockets for the space program. According to many sources, there is a $1billion economic impact with the transfer of the program out of Colorado Springs, which could have a bit of a negative effect.
This is a developing story….
