At approximately 2:08, Wednesday afternoon, the Fort Morgan Police Department was called to the area north and west of the Fort Morgan Middle School for what the caller believed to be a single gunshot from what they believed to be a high-powered rifle. The School Resource Officer stationed at the Fort Morgan Middle School contacted the administration and an interior lock out was initiated. This means that the kids can go about their school day as usual, with all doors within the school remaining locked and all entry doors locked to prevent entry into the building by anyone.
While the SRO was in the area to prevent anyone coming into the school that may be a threat, patrol officers responded to the area within minutes. After speaking with the reporting party and doing a good canvas of the area, they were unable to locate anyone in the area and did not find a threat at that time. Once the area was clear, the school was notified and the lock out was lifted. Out of an abundance of caution, there will be more police presence in that area throughout time students are released.
