KSTC Sports Update 02/05/24

Both Sterling basketball teams have hit the home stretch of the regular season, while wrestling prepares for postseason action with the regional tournaments taking place this upcoming weekend.

For Sterling Boys basketball, the start of the week 13-6 overall, and 7-1 in Patriot League play. The boys currently sit at 16th in the selection index, meaning they would get to stay home for the first round of the 4A playoffs. Sterling will host Weld Central on Tuesday and look to beat the Rebels for the second time in just 8 days. On Thursday the Tigers will host Resurrection Christian and seek to avenge their only league loss of the season. With a win Thursday, the boys could force a tie for the Patriot League championship or still possibly win the league outright. Sterling will play a third game this week, when they travel to University. The boys will end the regular season next Tuesday at Berthoud.

The Sterling girls sit at 8-11, 3-5 starting the new week. They are comfortably in the playoff at number 20 in the selection index, and with a winning streak to finish the season, still could possibly climb into the top-16 and earn a home playoff game. The girls will travel to Weld Central on Tuesday and look to beat the Rebels for a second time this season as well. After that, it is three games against three opponents who all have wins over the Tigers already this season. Sterling will look to force the split in Loveland on Thursday against Rez, home Saturday vs. University, and finally home next Tuesday against Berthoud.

Finally, it is postseason time for Sterling Tigers wrestling. The boys will travel to Eaton for a second year in a row and compete on Friday and Saturday for bids into next week's 3A State Tournament. For the Sterling girls, their first ever regional event as a program will take them to Fort Lupton to compete for their bids.
