Wray Wrestling competed in the 61st Annual Bob Smith Invitational and 1st Annual Marilyn Smith Invitational on Saturday in Wray. The boys finished in 2nd place of 15 teams for the tournament, and had 1st place finishes from Austin Collins and Tavery Chappell, 2nd place finishes from Andrew Buoy and Samuel Meisner, and 3rd place finishes from Brody Richards and Casey Midcap. The girls finished in 5th place of 5 teams, with 2nd place finishes for Gabby Aguilar and Lauren Gdanitz and 3rd place finishes from Jaycie Snapp and Claire Gdanitz. Wray Boys Wrestling will wrestle in Vernal, UT on January 5th and 6th, while Wray Girls Wrestling will wrestle in a tournament in Lamar on January 5th.


Wray Basketball came away with a pair of wins in Imperial, NE on Friday against Chase County. The girls won their game 32-25, and were able to use smothering defense to take a 9 point lead into halftime with an 11-1 2nd quarter. Dori Saffer led the girls with 9 points and 7 steals, while Sharon Greek finished with 7 points, 6 rebounds and 5 blocks. The boys also won their game 57-50, and had to overcome a huge rally that saw Chase County cut a 18 point 3rd quarter deficit down to 2 in the 4th, but the Eagles were able to regain their offense just in time to hold out for the win. Rafael Trejo led the boys with 16 points and 8 rebounds, while Aaron Tena chipped in 15 points. Wray Basketball will take on Merino on January 5th.


The Football All-State Teams have been announced. For Wray, Casey Midcap, Samuel Meisner, and Tavery Chappell made the 1A 1st Team, while Austin Collins and Ben Harms made the 1A Honorable Mentions. Congratulations to the boys for a great season, leading the team to a 4th consecutive semifinal appearance.
