KRDZ Sports Update 11/20/23

Wray Football was eliminated by Strasburg in the state semifinals on Saturday, 28-27 in overtime. The game was a defensive chess match, with Strasburg leading 7-0 after the 1st quarter and 14-7 at halftime before the Wray Eagles started to take over, scoring the next 2 touchdowns to lead 21-14 late in the 4th quarter before Strasburg was able to tie and force overtime. Strasburg got the first overtime possession, scoring and kicking the extra point to lead 28-21, while Wray was able to answer with a touchdown on their overtime possession, and decided to go for the 2 point conversion for the win, for which Strasburg was able to get the defensive stop and the win. Strasburg will advance to the state championship on Saturday against Limon, while Wray's season comes to an end with an 8-4 record and their 4th consecutive semifinal appearance.


Up next for Wray Athletics is the winter season, which will begin next Thursday the 30th with boys and girls wrestling at Sedgwick County, and then boys and girls basketball starting their season in Yuma on next Saturday the 2nd.
