Cory Korf was denied a bond reduction during a status conference and compliance hearing Tuesday morning, December 2, in Yuma County District Court in Wray.
Korf remains in custody at the Washington County Justice Center as he awaits trial on charges including attempted first-degree murder, first-degree assault, false imprisonment, second-degree kidnapping, and domestic violence. All charges were bound over for trial following a preliminary hearing on November 4th.
The case stems from a September 13th incident in the Vernon area involving a female victim identified as Sylvia Korf.
Judge Kimbra Killin presided over Tuesday’s hearing. Korf appeared remotely, alongside his attorney and Deputy District Attorney Amber Fletcher.
Korf’s attorney argued for a bond reduction from the current $250,000, saying the family cannot afford it. She noted that Korf was unable to attend his grandmother’s funeral and would agree to GPS monitoring, adding that he is not a flight risk and has family support in Goodland, Kansas.
Deputy D.A. Fletcher opposed any reduction, saying the victim fears for her life, and describing the severity of the alleged assault — stating the victim was bruised “from top to bottom” and “looked like a corpse” when discharged from the hospital. Fletcher also noted the victim reacted in “extreme terror” upon learning Korf had requested a furlough.
The D.A.’s office has also filed a new charge of aggravated retaliation.
Judge Killin denied the request but said she will reconsider bond after a January 6th hearing at 3 p.m. if prosecutors cannot show cause to keep the additional charge.
