KNEC Sports Update 11/06/23

Yuma Football lost in their round 1 playoff game against Gunnison, 28-14. The Outlaws held their own for a lot of the game against the #3 seed, trailing at halftime 7-0 before Gunnison started to pull away in the 2nd half. Jonathan Thomson completed 7 of 12 passes for 131 yards and a touchdown to Brody Sheffield, and Damien Kosinski ran for 96 yards and a touchdown. Yuma Football's season comes to an end with a 3-7 record.

Yuma Volleyball's season came to a heartbreaking end in the regional tournament. In the first game, Burlington upset the host school Hoehne 3-2, and in the second game Yuma trailed 2-0 to Burlington before coming back to force a 5th set, but Burlington was able to hold a narrow lead for the entire 5th set to win 3-2 and clinch their spot in the state tournament. With the last game between Yuma and Hoehne having no impact on the outcome of the regional, the teams agreed to play best 2 out of 3 instead of a full 3 out of 5 game, and Hoehne won 2-0. Yuma Volleyball's season ends with a 12-12 record.
