Busy weekend for local sports begins on an all basketball Friday night. Fort Morgan was swept at home by Frederick, the Lady Mustangs lost (57-20) and the boys fell (83-40). Wiggins split their two at Sedgwick County. The Lady Tigers were defeated (49-30) while the boys earned the win (47-37). And the Weldon Valley Lady Warriors dropped a close one at Deertrail (47-46), as the boys cruised to a (50-32) victory
Big wrestling day on Saturday with Brush and Wiggins at the Patriot League tournament and the Mustangs at the Mile High Classic. The Diggers were team champions and placed 11 different wrestlers. Nick Dardanes, Ritchie Bruno, Cole Curtis, and Christaun Astorga were all individual champs. Senior Americo Lorenzini finished in second to lead three Tiger placers as the team ended the weekend in 11th.
Fort Morgan had four place and took 7th as a team at Thomas Jefferson High School. Noah Aguirre was the top Mustang in 2nd at 175, while Connor Derry and Darius Masias were 4th and Ashton Meeks 6th.
Basketball continued on Saturday with the Mustangs and Tigers at home and the Warriors out of state at Banner County Nebraska. Fort Morgan entertained Weld Central in their final non-league games of the season and was swept by the visiting Rebels. The Lady Mustangs lost (37-32), Shea Ramierz had 17, and the boys fell (76-67), and were led by JJ Marquez with 21.
Wiggins closed out their back to back nights with a pair of home victories over Prairie. The Lady Tigers took down the Mustangs (43-25) and in a low scoring affair the boys won (35-27). And finally the Weldon Valley Lady Warriors rolled Banner County (44-21) and as of this morning no score had been reported.
Local sports take the night off, but pick back up tomorrow with Fort Morgan basketball at Mountain View. Lady Mustangs at 6pm with the boys at 7:30pm on hometown radio KFTM, 94.1 FM, and online at medialogicradio.com.
