A grand jury has returned an indictment charging 52-year-old Ronald Elton Lowry with First-Degree Murder and multiple felony counts in the October 2023 death of his estranged wife, Richelle Lowry.

Lowry is charged with First-Degree Murder after deliberation, two counts of stalking, tampering with physical evidence, and two crime-of-violence counts — one for causing serious bodily injury or death and another for use of a deadly weapon. All charges are classified as acts of domestic violence.

On October 26th, 2023, deputies with the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office conducted a welfare check at Richelle Lowry’s home in Bennett after she failed to report to work and could not be reached. Deputies forced entry into the residence and found her deceased with a single gunshot wound to the head.

Authorities say the death initially raised questions about whether it was a suicide. However, after an extensive investigation involving forensic analysis and a review of digital evidence, investigators determined the case to be a homicide.

Eighteenth Judicial District Attorney Amy Padden says the indictment marks an important step in the pursuit of justice. Prosecutors credit the sheriff’s investigators for a thorough and persistent investigation that examined forensic, digital, and testimonial evidence.

Lowry was booked into the Morgan County Jail on Friday and remains in custody.

As in all criminal cases, the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
