Fort Morgan's new mayor Doug Schossow is sworn in

At the recent City of Fort Morgan City Council meeting, all council members were present for the reorganization of the board. Following the unanimous approval of the minutes from the January 6th City Council meeting, outgoing Fort Morgan Mayor Kevin ‘Doc’ Lindell gave his closing comments thanking the staff & citizens of the City of Fort Morgan. After that, City Manager Brent Nation briefly took control of the meeting, with newly elected Mayor Doug Schossow taking the oath of office as he was sworn in by Judge Charles Peters. Next council members Brian Urdiales from Ward 1, Jon Kaper from Ward 2, and James Parks from Ward 3, were all sworn in as well. Once everyone took their new seats, Mayor Schossow did the roll call, as after that, it was on to business. The first item was affirming the vote of the Fort Morgan Fire Department and ratifying the appointment of Dillon Prevost to Fire Chief. Following the unanimous vote of approval from the council, Dillon Prevost was sworn in as the Fire Chief. Next were comments from the incoming council members, as Jon Kaper said how he is thankful for the opportunity to serve the City of Fort Morgan. Brian Urdiales said how he will do his best to take care of the City of Fort Morgan, and how he wants to hit the ground running with the experienced council. James Parks thanked the people of Ward 3 and is excited to get going. The next set of items addressed the staff appointments to various city boards, confirming the appointments of the City Manager, City Attorney law firm, Police Chief, Municipal Judge & Deputy Municipal Judge, along with contract extensions. Next were the establishment and operation of city bank accounts, and designating the city’s website, cityoffortmorgan.com, as the official posting site for meetings and notices. After that, the reorganizational meeting was adjourned. The next regular City of Fort Morgan City Council meeting will be held on Tuesday, January 20th, at 6 pm, at City Hall.
