PRESS RELEASE: The Department of Local Affairs’ (DOLA) Colorado Main Street Program has
designated the City of Cripple Creek, City of Woodland Park, City of Fort Morgan, and Town of Kiowa as
official Main Street communities. These four communities join 27 other cities and towns in the Colorado Main
Street Program, which offers support for community-led downtown revitalization and helps communities
thrive by providing a customizable framework to focus efforts, energy, and resources to create a more
vibrant community.
On the Eastern Plains, the City of Fort Morgan is the county seat of Morgan County and a commercial,
industrial, and recreational hub for northeast Colorado. It offers 5.5 miles of nature trails located in more
than 240 acres of a wildlife park and area located along the South Platte River. Fort Morgan is also home to
several notable legends, including Big Band leader Glenn Miller, three NFL football players, and the final
resting place of Philip K. Dick, notable science fiction writer.
The City of Fort Morgan’s economic development department is leading the local Main Street program,
hoping to cultivate a vibrant downtown that honors its heritage, champion unique businesses and historic
properties, and enrich cultural experiences that make Fort Morgan a place to shop, work, gather, and thrive.
The Colorado Main Street Program provides a framework for helping communities with the challenges they
face in their downtowns. The Colorado Main Street Program assists all of the official Main Street cities and
towns in building community engagement and support to attain their long-term visions for the future of their
downtowns.
