It was a chaotic start to the new school week for the Brush RE-2J school district on Monday, as classes for all grades were canceled due to a suspicious device discovered at the Brush Secondary Campus on Sunday evening.

Brush Superintendent Marsha Cody gave social media updates throughout the morning and praised law enforcement and first responders, including the Brush Police Department and the Brush Volunteer Fire Department, for their swift response, as the Greeley Bomb Squad was called in to check the device. The bomb squad found the device to be non-explosive and gave the all clear well before noon. The item found was empty and made from common piping materials.

There is no ongoing threat to the public, as it looks like it was just discarded, and NOT placed there with ill intent. The Morgan County Ambulance Service, Colorado State Patrol, and the Brush School District also assisted.

Brush High School Principal Bradley Bass sent out a statement via Facebook, encouraging anyone with questions to come forward, as there have been some minor adjustments to the homecoming festivities that are coming up, but will go on nonetheless. The pep rally has been moved to Wednesday, as all other events will proceed as planned. All classes will resume as normal starting Tuesday. (today)
