The FBI is leading the investigation into the fatal shooting of Charlie Kirk, founder of Turning Point USA, during an event at Utah Valley University on Wednesday. Authorities say Kirk was struck by a single shot fired from a distance on the Orem campus and later died at the hospital.
Officials describe the attack as targeted, though the suspect remains at large. More than 3,000 people were at the event, and police say no credible threats had been reported beforehand.
Political leaders across the spectrum condemned the killing. President Trump ordered flags nationwide to half-staff, calling Kirk’s death a political assassination. Utah Governor Spencer Cox echoed that, while Democrats including Governors Josh Shapiro and Gavin Newsom also denounced the violence.
The university will remain closed through September 14th as the investigation continues.
