CAUTION: NE Colorado Health Department warns of rabid skunk in Akron, Colorado

*For immediate attention: In Akron on Friday, October 31, 2025, a rabid skunk was identified in town. Due to the number of reports, it is suspected that there may be multiple skunks affected.
To stay safe, please avoid any contact with all wildlife, especially any wild animal behaving in an unusual manner.
Make sure your children are warned to never touch any animal they may see in the neighborhood and keep all pets on leash or confined to avoid interaction with wildlife.
As always, make sure your pets are up to date with their rabies vaccinations. If you have concerns for livestock, please talk to your veterinarian.
