Multiple police, fire crews, and EMT’s responded to an auto/pedestrian crash that occurred Friday night around 10:45 pm in Fort Morgan.

The incident happened the night of July 10th, as crowds from the Bobstock Music Festival were leaving downtown Fort Morgan following the end of Friday’s concert. It appears that a pedestrian was crossing Colorado State Highway 34/Platte Avenue, just one block east of the intersection of Main Street and Platte Avenue in Fort Morgan, when that person was hit by a white pickup truck on the westbound side of the highway at State Street, near the Walgreens.

The Fort Morgan Police Department, Morgan County Sheriff’s Office, and the Colorado State Patrol were all on scene, along with the Fort Morgan Volunteer Fire Department and the Morgan County Ambulance Service.

Both of the Westbound lanes of Platte Avenue were completely closed down during the incident and the investigation. The driver of the truck appeared to remain at the scene, as the victim was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

The eastbound lanes of Platte remained open briefly; however, vehicles were not slowing down as they moved past the accident scene. One of the officers from the Fort Morgan Police Department was directing traffic around the crash site on the eastbound side of the highway when a fast-moving SUV actually hit the arm of the officer, knocking his flashlight completely out of his hand and hitting the ground. The SUV stopped as the officer looked at the driver of the SUV and ordered the driver to pull over to the side street and go around. Right after that, both sides of Highway 34 were shut down between Main Street and Prospect.

Thankfully, the officer was NOT hurt, but it is a big reminder that when emergency vehicles are on scene with flashing lights, all drivers need to slow down and pay attention to the road. The extent of the pedestrian's injuries is unknown, as Highway 34 completely reopened and cleared about an hour later, Friday around 11:40 pm.
