Afghanistan Purple Heart Awardee Receives 'Shine On Salute'

On Veterans Day, Tuesday, November 11, 2025, Bob Butler of rural Sterling was honored as a recipient of the 'Shine On Salute'. Ron Smith, owner of Shine On Automotive, presented Mr. Butler with a metal United States flag featuring the U.S. Air Force emblem. Smith, a United States Navy veteran, emphasized the importance of showing veterans the respect and honor they deserve.
Bob Butler, a Colorado native, is a 12-year Air Force Veteran. He served on the EOD (bomb squad) team. Butler was deployed to Afghanistan 4 times. On October 5, 2010, Butler suffered serious injuries after a roadside IED exploded. One of Butler’s teammates was killed after the explosion, and all of his teammates were injured. Butler received a medical discharge from the Air Force after his recovery. Butler was awarded 4 Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart during his service in the Air Force.
Erin Butler, Bob’s wife, attended the presentation. She is an Air Force Veteran having served 4 years as a firefighter. After retiring from the Air Force, she continued as a civilian firefighter for the same fire house for 8 years.
The couple has two children, Wyatt, 19 and Emma, 9.
