On Veterans Day, Tuesday, November 11, 2025, Bob Butler of rural Sterling was honored as a recipient of the 'Shine On Salute'. Ron Smith, owner of Shine On Automotive, presented Mr. Butler with a metal United States flag featuring the U.S. Air Force emblem. Smith, a United States Navy veteran, emphasized the importance of showing veterans the respect and honor they deserve.

Bob Butler, a Colorado native, is a 12-year Air Force Veteran.  He served on the EOD (bomb squad) team.  Butler was deployed to Afghanistan 4 times.  On October 5, 2010, Butler suffered serious injuries after a roadside IED exploded.  One of Butler’s teammates was killed after the explosion, and all of his teammates were injured.  Butler received a medical discharge from the Air Force after his recovery.  Butler was awarded 4 Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart during his service in the Air Force.

Erin Butler, Bob’s wife, attended the presentation.  She is an Air Force Veteran having served 4 years as a firefighter.  After retiring from the Air Force, she continued as a civilian firefighter for the same fire house for 8 years.

The couple has two children, Wyatt, 19 and Emma, 9.
