DEMOCRATS IN COLORADO HAVE THEIR TICKET FOR GOVERNOR
Attorney General Phil Weiser officially introduced Jefferson County Commissioner Lesley Dahlkemper on Wednesday as his choice for lieutenant governor in this fall's election.
Weiser called Dahlkemper "a governing partner" with years of experience tackling issues like wildfire mitigation, water conservation, affordable housing, public safety and early childhood education. He also praised her collaborative leadership in helping distribute Colorado's share of opioid settlement funds to local communities.
Dahlkemper is wrapping up her second term on the Jefferson County Commission after previously serving as president of the Jeffco Public Schools Board of Education. She said her leadership style is built on listening and delivering results, pointing to Jefferson County voters' approval of lifting the county's TABOR revenue cap as an example of securing long-term funding for roads, bridges, public safety and wildfire prevention.
Weiser faces Republican nominee Victor Marx in November to succeed term-limited Governor Jared Polis. Marx has until July 31 to announce his running mate. His campaign says the election offers voters a choice between experienced insiders and what it calls fresh leadership from business, technology, public safety and the military.
If elected, Dahlkemper would become Colorado's 51st lieutenant governor and the seventh woman to hold the office.
