An 84-year-old man from Ovid died because of injuries he received from a crash involving a minivan. The e-bike he was riding collided with a Dodge Caravan early Saturday morning, July 25^th.

The Colorado State Patrol responded to the crash on Highway 138 east of Ovid. It was determined that the 84-year-old man was traveling eastbound on the shoulder of Highway 138 when his motorized bicycle drove into the westbound side of the roadway and collided with the Dodge minivan near MM 50, around 7:20 am Saturday.

The 84-year-old was thrown from the e-bike and landed in the ditch north of the highway. He was taken to the hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.

Highway 138 was shut down in both directions for several hours during the initial investigation. Both sides reopened around 12:15 pm. The 70-year-old driver of the minivan was not injured in the crash.
