Police Department Tackle Staffing Shortages

Police departments across Colorado are struggling with staffing, and trying to find solutions. Golden let officers work shorter weeks, and says that’s paying off. Last summer, the Golden PD switched officers to a 4-day work week, doing 32 hours, but still getting paid for 40. Six months into that, the department says its overtime spending has gone down, with only half as many resignations as in previous years. They plan to keep that pilot program going through the end of this year. In Summit County, the Frisco Police are looking at a different approach to retain officers. That department wants to spend nearly half a million dollars to buy take-home cars for them. Frisco Town Council is said to be considering the idea.
