KFTM Sports Update 10/16/23

Weldon Valley played host to Briggsdale on Friday and split their volleyball - football double header. Lady Warrior volleyball swept through Falcons to split their season series and remain tied with Briggsdale at the top of the 1A North Central. Weldon Valley plays at Belleview Christian on Thursday, but still has another tough league match up with Haxtun a week from tomorrow on Tuesday the 24th. And Warrior football lost their fifth straight (51-6) to the Falcons to start the afternoon. Weldon Valley travels to Peetz on Friday for a 7pm kickoff.

For the first time in a decade, Brush softball will not be going to the Aurora Sports Complex after a (7-5) loss to Meeker at regionals in Strasburg. The last time the Lady Diggers lost in the first round was back in 2013 when they were defeated by Florence (6-3) in Sterling. Brush finishes out the year with a record of (11-13).

Fort Morgan and Wiggins football picked a pair of shutout road wins also on Saturday. Sophomore Quarterback JJ Marquez threw for 5 touchdowns as the Mustangs rolled (34-0) over Kennedy. In two games at All City Stadium, Marquez had 9 touchdowns, no picks and totaled 432 yards in the air. Fort Morgan is back at home for two straight, and hosts Holy Family on Thursday at 7pm.

The Tigers got off the bus ready to play and took it to the Cougars (42-0) in Burlington. Wiggins has Limon next week, but the biggest game may be in two at Wray. The Eagles and Tigers could potentially share the same league record headed into the final week of the season. The winner of that game may decide who goes on to the playoffs and who calls it a season. Wiggins is at Limon Friday at 7pm.

Just one event on the local schedule today, and it has Fort Morgan Soccer at home to Holy Family at 4pm.
